Google has officially unveiled the $ 699 Pixel 5, the latest flagship for Android. Compared to last year’s Pixel 4, Google has focused less on impressive new technologies – such as the Motion Sense touch-up on last year’s model – and emphasizes instead the unique features that already help distinguish Pixel, such as its outstanding camera software.

Google today announced its latest smartphone, the Google Pixel 5. Not surprisingly, this device uses the latest version of Google’s mobile app, Android 11, but with its build it’s much closer to the second-generation Pixel 4a, launched in August this year. rather than the direct predecessor, the Pixel 4.

However, the Pixel 5 does not look like the mid-range Pixel 4a, and is the first high-end flagship phone to be powered by Qualcomm’s high-end chipset. It replaces the second-generation Snapdragon 765G, which should still provide a lot of processing power even for the most demanding apps. OS and applications can rely on 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. As with the Pixel 4, the Pixel 5’s 6 inch FullHD + OLED display offers a 90 Hz refresh rate, and the 4,080 mAh battery we’ve seen in the Pixel phone so far. In addition, the device comes with wireless charging and an IP68 rating for dust and water protection.

Looking at the spec sheet, it is clear that Google intended to offer the Pixel 5 at a lower price than before. And that’s what the company does: for the initial price of $ 699, the Pixel 5 is the cheapest Pixel phone we’ve seen in a long time and is much cheaper than leading phones from Apple, Samsung, Huawei, and other major manufacturers.

Google’s unwillingness to compete with those products in terms of advanced computer hardware is also evident in the camera department. In the front, a single 8MP module does selfie work, while in the back the Pixel 5 retains the two camera cameras of its main gun. However, while the Pixel 4 has added a phone camera dedicated to the main module, Google’s Pixel 5 offers ultra-wide but not telephonic. Let’s take a closer look at the Pixel 5 camera.

As mentioned above, the biggest change between the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 in terms of camera hardware is the transition from a camera-enabled camera to an ultra-wide-angle. In video mode, users can now shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second, which should be acceptable news for those in need of high resolution and increased frame rate, and Google says it has also improved. The details of the main camera hardware have not changed to the new model, so any potential improvements in image quality may fall into software, such as improved HDR +. Compared to other Chinese phones, such as the Huawei P40 Pro or Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, the Pixel 5’s 1 / 2.55-inch sensor is quite small. We’ve seen a lot of shadow noise in Pixel 4 in our test size and sensor size may have an impact.

That said, the Pixel 5’s main camera sensor is about the same size on comparable devices, such as the iPhone 11, and Google is known to be at the forefront of photo usage, so there’s a good chance the image’s sound is better controlled than the latest model than the Pixel 4.

The lack of dedicated tele-lenses probably means that users will have to accept lower image data levels in Pixel 5 images captured in zoom settings than Pixel 4. Thanks to its excellent Super Resolution algorithms, Google engineers have been able to extract attractive zoom quality from previous single lens models, but still very difficult to compete with models equipped with telephones.

Lack of tele-lense and flight-time sensor also means that the Pixel 5 relies solely on wide and wide lenses for measuring depth and making bokeh lenses made in portrait mode, meaning that the depth depth measurement is almost lower than devices with multiple data capture methods depth.
